Barney has an outstanding understanding of all aspects of the real estate industry, including sales, marketing, technology and team management. A licensed real estate agent, Barney brings a wealth of experience to the industry. Barney has been a stand-alone agent, a sales manager, head of PM (2,500 props), built a home loan business, been a principal of a five-office network, and sat on various boards.
Prior to entering real estate, he spent the majority of his career in senior roles within the advertising industry in Sydney, New York and London. Having worked with IBM, McDonalds and Audi, amongst many other global leaders, he brings to real estate a passionate understanding of the importance of the brand and how to market it.
Barney joined McGrath Real Estate in 1999 and had the good fortune of working closely with John McGrath, arguably one of the Australian industry’s most progressive thinkers. He immediately set about rebuilding and rethinking what was already a hugely successful brand.
After leaving the McGrath Company in 2002, he worked as a consultant to many of the industry’s most successful brands – both independent and franchise. These include Ray White, Laing & Simmons, R&W, Marshall White, Cobden & Hayson, Devine Real Estate, Warwick Williams Real Estate, Thomson’s Real Estate, Ferry Real Estate, Toop & Toop, Bradcorp Holdings, Bresic Whitney and many others.
Today, Barney consults to many businesses across the Eastern Seaboard. From single offices, to large franchise groups, and primarily focused on brand development and management. He is also highly regarded as a business coach, advising on technology, social media, processes, improving margins, succession planning and growth.
Barney works like a contract marketing and operations manager. He will get to understand the issues, recommend solutions and suppliers, negotiate best price and best of breed suppliers, and manage the delivery on-time and on-budget. He differs from most consultants, in that he ensures implementation occurs, with minimal disruption to business, and provides a single point of contact across a broad array of disciplines and suppliers.
